BUILT by HAND, LUNU is our labour of LOVE

the BEGINNING
First, there were two. Maddie and Dan. A couple with too many questions and not enough answers. We came to Sri Lanka the way most people do: burnt out, searching, wondering if there was more to life than the version we'd been sold.
We didn't have a plan. Just a feeling.

a SEARCH for the PERFECT spot
We spent months looking for somewhere that felt right. Viewings that went nowhere, places that were almost but not quite.
And then one day we found it: a tucked-away plot above Hiriketiya, jungle on one side, the sound of the ocean on the other. It wasn't finished. It wasn't even close. But something clicked.
To be honest, we probably said yes before we should have.

the REAL work starts
What followed was a year of sweat, setbacks and learning how to say "slowly, slowly" in Sinhala (that's the local dialect here in Sri Lanka). We built LUNU with local hands, salvaged materials and more improvisation than we'd ever admit. Furniture was repurposed, walls were painted three times, and nothing went according to plan.
It was chaos. It was exhausting. It was the best thing we've ever done.

our WHY
We opened LUNU because Sri Lanka gave us something we didn't know we needed: clarity. Space to breathe. Time to figure out what actually matters.
We wanted to share that. To open our doors to others who might be searching for the same thing, or maybe just a good night's sleep and a slower pace. No agenda. No pressure. Just a place to land for a while.

present DAY
Three years on, LUNU is still a work in progress. We're still learning, still building, still figuring it out. The jungle keeps growing, the guests keep coming, and somehow it all keeps working.
We're not trying to be perfect. We're just trying to do it with intention.
And a lot of love.

WHERE the JUNGLE MEETS your PILLOW.
stripped back spaces designed for rest, not distraction.
